CLECL1 (C-type lectin like 1, HGNC:24462) is a protein-coding gene on chromosome 12p13.31, encoding C-type lectin-like domain family 1 (Q8IZS7). Functions in mediating immune cell-cell interactions.

This gene encodes a type II transmembrane, C-type lectin-like protein that is highly expressed on dendritic and B cells. This protein may act as a T-cell costimulatory molecule that enhances interleukin-4 production, and maybe involved in the regulation of the immune response. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

  • DCAL-1, highly expressed on dendritic cells and B lymphocytes, acts as a T cell costimulatory molecule which skews CD4+ T cells toward a Th2 response by enhancing their secretion of IL-4. (PMID:12421943)
  • incubation of immature DCs (iDCs) with an anti-DCAL-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) induced downstream signaling, including phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p44/42 MAP kinase. (PMID:19027044)
  • C-type lectin-like molecule-1 is expressed in 86.5% of cases of acute myeloid leukemia, in 54.5% of acute myeloid leukemia CD34positiveCD38negative stem cells, but not in acute lymphoblastic leukemia blast cells. (PMID:19648166)
