Summary

DCDC1 (doublecortin domain containing 1, HGNC:20625) is a protein-coding gene on chromosome 11p14.1, encoding Doublecortin domain-containing protein 1 (M0R2J8). Microtubule-binding protein which plays an important role in mediating dynein-dependent transport of RAB8A-positive vesicles to the midbody during cytokinesis.

This gene encodes a member of the doublecortin family. The protein encoded by this gene is a hydrophilic, intracellular protein. It contains a single doublecortin domain and is unable to bind microtubules and to regulate microtubule polymerization. This gene is mainly expressed in adult testis. It does not have a mouse homolog.

Literature-anchored findings (GeneRIF, showing 2)

  • DCDC1 was mapped to 11p13; mainly expressed in adult testis; and its expression in fetal brain was much higher than in adult brain (PMID:12820024)
  • DCDC5 colocalizes with Rab8 and links it to dynein during cytokinesis. DCDC5 knockdown increased apoptosis and the number of multinucleated cells. (PMID:22159412)
