Summary

FTX (FTX transcript, XIST regulator, HGNC:37190) is a long non-coding RNA gene on chromosome Xq13.2.

This gene is located upstream of XIST, within the X-inactivation center (XIC). It produces a spliced long non-coding RNA that is thought to positively regulate the expression of XIST, which is essential for the initiation and spread of X-inactivation.

At a glance

  • Gene type: non-coding (lncRNA) — no protein product; not a drug target. Variant/disease associations are omitted (they would be positional, from an overlapping protein-coding gene).

  • these findings suggest that lnc-FTX may act as a tumor suppressor in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through physically binding miR-374a and MCM2. It may also be one of the reasons for HCC gender disparity and may potentially contribute to HCC treatment (PMID:27065331)
